At Shinners Care Center, we exist to serve the forgotten. Founded from a deep burden to uplift vulnerable children and communities in Kenya, we are a compassion-driven nonprofit organization committed to transforming lives through compassion, empowerment, and sustainable impact.
Shinners Care Center began in Kisumu, Kenya in 1997 as a small self-help group with a heart for children, women, and vulnerable families. In 2004, we formally registered as a community initiative, and in 2014 we became a recognized Community Based Organization (CBO) as our work and impact grew.
As the need for support expanded, friends of Shinners in the United States helped establish a 501(c)(3) charity to partner with us. This registration allows well-wishers abroad to support our work more easily and transparently.
Primary Base: Shinners Care Center in Kisumu, Kenya – where the programs, leadership, and daily work with children, women, and youth are carried out.
Shinners Care Center USA (501c3) – a supportive arm that helps raise awareness, mobilize resources, and strengthen the work happening on the ground in Kenya. At the heart of it all, our roots remain firmly in Kisumu, where community is our foundation and where every effort begins.
To empower vulnerable communities through inclusive care, education, economic opportunities, and community support- building a foundation for dignity, resilience, and sustainable growth in every life we touch.
A world where every child is safe, every family is supported, and every community thrives, and with a deep sense of purpose and dignity.
Our six core programs span education, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, talent development, environmental care, and faith-based outreach. But we are more than our programs — we are a movement of people who believe every life has value, every community has potential, and every act of love matters.
We believe that when you uplift one life, you change generations. This is not charity — it’s justice. It’s not a handout — it’s a hand extended with compassion and dignity. Join us. Together, we can restore what was broken and reimagine what’s possible.
